There are different brands of ';baking mix'; in America with Bisquick being one of them. It is used to make pancakes, biscuits, etc.
If you don't have access to anything like that, here is a recipe to make your own:
QUICK MIX
8 1/2 c all-purpose flour
3 T baking powder
1 T salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 c instant nonfat dry milk
2 1/4 c vegetable shortening
In a large bowl, sift together all dry ingredients. Blend well. With pastry blender, cut in shortening until evenly distributed. Mixture will resemble cornmeal in texture. Put in a large airtight container. Label it. Store in a cool, dry place. Use within 10 to 12 weeks. Makes about 13 cups of QUICK MIX.
If you surf the web for Bisquick recipes, you can use this mix in place of theirs and the world will open up to you with easy recipes to make. They have one called Impossible Pie that makes its own crust by mixing this into the filling. You can use it with meats, etc. Go to Google.com and type in Bisquick recipes and you should hit the ';motherload'; of recipes.
Enjoy!I got a grill as a gift with an American recipe book, a lot of the recipes need ';baking mix'; what is this?
